Joan E. Barrett

A teacher and performer.
While in Calgary from 1975 to 1992 she was a founding member of Kensington Sinfonia, was a principal in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and performed frequently in solo and chamber recitals. In her work at Mount Royal College's Academy for Gifted Students, Ms Barrett has become known as a highly skilled and enthusiastic teacher of violinists and chamber music groups who have been provincial and national prize winners. In 1985, Mount Royal College acknowledged this work by awarding the Distinguished Teaching award to Ms Barrett.
Subsequently, Joan Barrett was the string co-ordinator of the gifted program at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and taught at the University of Toronto. Joan is an examiner for RCM Examinations, a frequent clinician and festival adjudicator.
An experienced orchestral musician and teacher, she has coached and conducted youth orchestras in Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto and Calgary. She taught in the Saskatoon Summer Workshop, has been on faculty at the Canadian Festival of Youth Orchestras at Banff, Alberta from 1984 to 1990, and the Banff International Festivals in 1997 and 1999.
Ms Barrett's education includes bachelor and master degrees in violin performance at Indiana University, an ARCT in piano performance and pedagogy in adddition to certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Educational Kinesiology and Brain Based Learning.
In combination with her success as a musician and teacher, Joan Barrett has developed a reputation as a learning and performance coach. Through individual guidance and classes, Ms Barrett enjoys coaching people to enhance their performance effectiveness and satisfaction.
