Louis Lortie - piano

Mr. Lortie was born in Quebec and made his debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra at the age of 13. Three years later he took first prize in the Canadian Music Competition and the CBC National. He was named Officer of the Order of Canada in 1992.
In September 1984 Louis Lortie was a prizewinner in the Leeds International Competition. That year he also won first prize in the Busoni International Competition in Italy. Since then he has made concert tours of England, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands.
Mr. Lortie currently lives in Berlin with his wife, an architect and visual artist, and their two young sons.
Influencing Teachers:
Yvonne Hubert (a pupil of Alfred Cortot), in Vienna with the Beethoven specialist, Dicter Weber, subsequently with Leon Fleisher, and was also influenced by violinist and chamber music teacher Josef Gingold.
