The Royal Conservatory of Music has four levels of string orchestras for young people:
RCM Preparatory (Violin) Orchestra. Kelly Lynne Parkins-Lindstrom, conductor. For RCM Grade 1-2 students, Suzuki Plus students from late book 1 toearly book 3. An introduction to ensemble playing.
RCM Junior String Orchestra. Kelly Lynne Parkins-Lindstrom, conductor. For RCM Grade 2-3 students, Suzuki book 3, some older beginners, 9-12 years. Violin and cello ensemble. Basic skills, but in more advanced keys. Real orchestra repertoire.
RCM Intermediate String Orchestra. Jonathon Craig, Conductor. For RCM Grade 4-6 students. Real orchestral repertoire in diverse styles.
RCM Senior String Orchestra. Sheldon Grabke, Conductor. For RCM Grade 6 & higher students. This full string orchestra. Perform masterworks and standard repertoire.
The Young Artists Performance Academy also has an advanced string orchestra for its members.
Rehearsals are on Saturday at Glebe Road United Church, 20 Glebe Rd. East (in the Yonge and Davisville area) for the Preparatory (11:15 a.m.), Junior (12:30 p.m) and Intermediate (11:00 a.m.) orchestras. The Senior Orchestra meets at the RCM at 10:00 a.m.
Tuition fees: $170.00 for Preparatory and Junior Orchestras; $230 for Intermediate and Senior Orchestras.
Conductors: Kelly Lynne Parkins-Lindstrom, Jonathon Craig, Sheldon Grabke.
