The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra was formed by the Toronto Symphony over 25 years ago. The TSYO is a full symphonic orchestra of 90 musicians, 22 years and under. The program includes coaching from members of the TSO, masterclasses with world-class musicians performing with the TSO, a chamber music programme, professional level orchestral repertoire and six performances in four different venues.
The TSYO has worked with such renowned musicians as Sir Andrew Davis, Gunther Herbig, Kurt Sanderling, Simon Streatfeild, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, and Wynton Marsalis. It has also had tours and exchange trips to such places as Montreal, Texas, Boston, Northern Canada, and Europe.

Auditions:
In September, usually the weekend after Labour Day. Members must reaudition each season with prepared pieces, specified orchestral excerpts and technical exercises.
