Elderhostel: Learning Opportunities for Seniors

Participants in Elderhostel programs are retired or are about to retire, usually in their mid-fifties or beyond. These programs offer short-term, academic and recreational programs hosted by a global network of educational institutions and program facilitators. Last year over 314,000 people from North America participated in Elderhostel programs involving more than 80 countries.


UK Report Confirms Loud Music Damages Hearing

The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) conducted research in July 1999 among a random sample of 366 16- to 34-year-olds. The survey found that 81% of young people are not worried abut their hearing, yet nearly half of them experience hearing problems. RNID is conducting a Safer Sound campaign to alert young people to the dangers of prolonged exposure to loud music.


Brain Waves of New Borns may Predict Dyslexia

Psychologists at Southern Illinois University have discovered clues through brain wave patterns taken just hours after birth which could help doctors diagnose dyslexia providing the opportunity for early educational intervention. The article appears in the August 21 issue of New Scientist.
