UK Launches Programme for International Student Assessment

The Office for National Statistics in the UK is setting up a nine-year cycle of testing in English, maths and science beginning in March 2000. The results of these tests will be compared to those already carried out in the education systems of 30 countries around the world.


Appleby College a "Laptop School"

Appleby College, a private school in Oakville, Ontario for students from Grades 7 to OAC, has electronically linked their 565 students and 70 staff to each other, the internet and to its own internal network of online resources. Not only is each desk and the campus completely "wired", but all students have IBM Thinkpad laptop computers. Two Appleby teachers describe how they and their students are using this technology.
