StatsCan Report on Education System

The Education Indicators in Canada 1999 report produced by Statistics Canada and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, in collaboration with the provinces and territories, provides a comprehensive set of statistical measures, or indicators, describing the education systems in Canada in terms of students, teachers, finances and outcomes. The 250 page report concludes that Canada's standard of education is relatively high questioning business complaints of unskilled graduates. The report also shows there is much room for improvement expressing concern that boys score dramatically lower than girls in reading and writing; that fewer boys than girls graduate from highschool; that university fees have doubled in the 90's; that educational spending has dropped in constant dollars over the past five years; that aboriginal students face particular challenges; and that greater numbers of students from low income families are not going to university compared to 10 years ago. The complete report can be viewed at http://www.statcan.ca:80/english/freepub/81-582-XIE/free.htm.

Up-to-date information on concerts, courses, competitions, summer camps and other opportunities are available for teachers, parents and students. Performers will also find resources for personal growth.
