Profile

Mary Straub has a B.M.E. from Indiana University and has studied violin with Harry Farbman, Tadeusz Wronski, William Starr, John Kendall and Mimi Zweig. She has taught the Suzuki method since 1981 including Books I through X. Mary Straub's approach begins to supplement the Suzuki repertoire at Book II or IV to ultimately include the major concerto repertoire, and includes examinations, chamber music, and orchestra. She is active as a performer and is a frequent Suzuki workshop clinician. She has recently been on faculty at Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts and continues as an instructor at the Nevada School of the Arts. Her students have been consistent winners in MTNA competitions.

NEWS:

• Natalie Cheung won first place in the Nevada Music Teachers Association state-wide Concerto Competition, Honorable Mention at the Regional MTNA Competition and first place (ages 13-14) in the 2000 Bolognini Competition. This past summer Natalie attended Sound Encounters Advanced String Workshop studying with Brian Lewis in Ottawa, Kansas. She also studied with Mimi Zweig at the Indiana University String Academy.
• Also in the 2000 Bolognini Competiton, Shervin Wang won second place (ages 11-12), Lara Andrews won second place (ages 17-18) and Heather Reinarz received Honorable Mention.
• Paulina Haduong and James Reinarz performed at the annual NSA Dean's Honors Recital and Fall Term Gallery Show Reception.
• James Reinarz and Lara Andrews were selected to perform with the Henderson Civic Orchestra in their annual spring Young People's Concerto Competition.
• Lara Andrews won a second place award ($500 cash prize) in the Rotary International Dan Stover Competition. This fall, Lara is attending Azuza Pacific University.
• Abraham Gumroyan participated in the All-State Orchestra held in Reno last spring where she won "Command Performance" in the upper strings division.
• Amanda Booth was concertmaster at the Northern Arizona University High School Summer Music Camp. Scott Jackson attended Idelwild Music Camp in California.
